  • Engaging in Vision Therapy

    August 2nd, 2011

Lincoln, NE – EyeCare Specialties is proud to introduce the Sanet Vision Integrator (SVI), a vision therapy product that uses interactive technology on a 46″ touch-screen monitor.

Similar to how an athlete recovers from an injury by working with physical therapy, Vision Therapy students train eye muscles to move in a new way. Therapy methods have improved conditions including crossed or lazy eye, focusing problems, eye tracking difficulties, eye coordination and visual processing. Dr. Nicole Morrissey OD, director of Vision Therapy at EyeCare Specialties, leads a team of vision therapists at EyeCare Specialties. They use treatment methods such as the Brock String, the Space Fixator, and the Peg Board Rotator, with new and engaging technology like SVI, to help students overcome visual deficiencies. Customized to a patient’s diagnosis, a Vision Therapy coordinator determines the most beneficial treatment plan and maps out which methods would be best suited for their vision correction.

“In order for therapy to be effective, the patient has to be actively involved,” said Morrissey. With the digital touch-screen technology of SVI, patients, especially children, tend to be more responsive and actively involved during therapy. SVI works by “speaking” to each patient, “instructing the patient to respond to verbal commands, improving auditory-visual integration and memory.” SVI encourages patient participation, which is key to its effectiveness. It keeps patients engaged in therapy, which means that they are more likely to complete the program and receive maximum benefits.

EyeCare Specialties strives to provide the best in vision therapy technology for their patients. SVI is one of the newest instruments for use in vision therapy. It incorporates multiple therapies that positively affect eye movements, eye teaming, eye focusing, and visual processing. It enables the EyeCare Specialties Vision Therapy Team to more effectively track quantitative results. These results are assessed to see where improvement has been made and which areas need more work.

SVI is ideal for patients with visual impairment, but also useful for patients who want to improve hand-eye coordination. It is an “all-in-one” system that uses customized features to enhance each patient’s visual abilities. SVI is also designed for patients with visually-related learning problems, strabismus, amblyopia, and traumatic brain injury.

EyeCare Specialties’ highly trained Vision Therapy Team has helped over 600 children overcome vision disorders by knowing that good vision is more than 20/20 eyesight.
