Assessing Your Child’s Vision
Vision is more than 20/20 eyesight. Seeing objects clearly is important but being able to understand what you are seeing is the key to great vision.
|Step 1||When you come to our clinic in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Rachel Smith will perform the first stage of the evaluation. This stage is designed to make sure the visual system is healthy. We determine whether your eyesight can best be helped with corrective lenses, Vision Therapy or a combination of the two.|
|Step 2||The second stage of the evaluation concentrates on how the patient functions visually. Visual skills are evaluated for speed, accuracy, flexibility and endurance.|
|Step 3||The third stage of the evaluation investigates how well the visual information is processed and how well it is integrated with other sensory systems.|
Instruments and Techniques
Because each patient is unique, each course of treatment is developed specifically for that patient. Using a combination of exercises and techniques, we will create a therapy to address the patient’s individual needs in the areas of tracking, eye teaming and eye focusing.
Sanet Vision Integrator
One of our newest instruments is the Sanet Vision Integrator (SVI). This 46″ touch-screen monitor is a tool that can improve eye movements, eye teaming, eye focusing and more.
Home Therapy is essential for the success of treatment. New home therapy exercises customized specifically for each patient will be assigned during each weekly session. The patient will work on these exercises at home with our Home Therapy Kit. The Kit contains a computer program and several other instruments to help the patient throughout treatment.
Our son has seen steady improvement in school work since beginning vision therapy. He appears to be more aware of his surroundings. He really enjoys the sessions at the clinic weekly. This has been a very positive experience for him and for us.
